Global Massachusetts
2015
Boston, Massachusetts, June 22, 2006
– The Boston Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant for support
of Global Massachusetts 2015 to the Associated Industries of Massachusetts
Foundation, Inc. Global Massachusetts 2015 is a two-year project
being undertaken by Mass Insight, Associated Industries of Massachusetts
(A.I.M.), and other partners to create a vision for economic success
in key and emerging industry sectors over the next decade. The goal
of the initiative is to build consensus on the agenda that will
make Massachusetts a world leader in innovation, in order to retain
and create good paying jobs statewide.
By organizing leadership in current and emerging industry sectors,
Global Massachusetts 2015 will confront challenging issues and propose
solutions in areas critical to developing, recruiting and retaining
talented human capital in the state. These areas include:
- A talent and innovation strategy -- to link higher education
and K-12 to talent, technology and innovation.
- A talent friendly environment – that addresses the cost
of living and doing business, while investing in infrastructure,
and to provide the innovative climate to recruit and retain talented
human capital.
- Regional linkages – to connect Greater Boston’s
economic engine to other regions in the state and New England.
- Global partnerships – to make the Commonwealth the senior
partner in large-scale talent partnerships with China, India and
other national and international innovation clusters.
“With input from business, public and private universities,
and nonprofit and public leaders, we will work to establish an economic
vision for 2015, and set benchmarks for success,” said William
Guenther, President of Mass Insight Corporation, a public policy
research organization.
Commenting on the project, Richard Lord, A.I.M.’s president
& CEO said, “If we take the right steps to invest in and
foster development of the state’s human capital, and continue
to improve our cost structure, infrastructure and business climate,
Massachusetts will be well positioned to compete in the national
and international marketplace of the future.”
