College Presidents, Industry Leaders Join State Street CEO Ron Logue to Discuss Global Strategies for Massachusetts

State Street Corporation, Boston, July 11 – Last week, Mass Insight's Global Massachusetts 2015 initiative held a leadership policy strategy discussion on making Massachusetts a major innovation gateway for Asia, which featured expert perspectives from the state's industrial, academic and government communities. The Asia Connection: Positioning Massachusetts as an Innovation Gateway was hosted by State Street Corp. CEO Ron Logue at the company's Boston global headquarters.

The July 11 event featured a keynote address from Logue, who highlighted State Street's deep and longstanding ties to Asia. In addition, the event included remarks from Northeastern University President Joseph Aoun, MassPort CEO Tom Kinton and Mass. Convention Center Authority Executive Director Jim Rooney. The breakfast also featured a panel discussion with Anthony Saich, Director of the Harvard University Asia Center; Gunther Winkler, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Biogen Idec and University of Massachusetts President Jack Wilson. Including Aoun and Wilson, the event included the participation of five area university/college presidents.

Drop in Massachusetts Foreign Student Population
At the event, Global Mass released its white paper, Making Massachusetts a World Class Talent Destination, which outlined foreign college student trend data and the global priorities of Massachusetts. The white paper - co-authored by Wellesley-based education research firm Collegia - showed a significant drop for Massachusetts in the number of foreign students at our colleges and universities - a trend that will impact the generation of high skill talent for our workforce.

The white paper was covered by many media outlets, including the Boston Globe, WBUR radio, WBZ TV and radio, and NECN. Click here to download the report.

The event was sponsored by State Street, MassPort and the Mass. Convention Center Authority, with the support of partners Massachusetts Alliance for International Business, the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and & Investment and TiE (The Indus Partnership).
