2015 Q4 Consumer Confidence
ANOTHER SIX-POINT RISE IN MA CONSUMER CONFIDENCE
Mass Insight Index Picks Up Ground For Fifth Straight Quarter; Future Ratings Lead The Way
The Mass Insight Consumer Confidence Index rose another six points in the Fourth Quarter of 2015, with the overall score moving from 115 to 121. This allowed the Index to stay above the watershed 100-point level for the fourth straight quarter. This also represents the fifth straight quarter of positive movement. The increase in the overall index was fueled by a solid rise in future optimism (+8)—the first improvement on this component since January of this year. Despite only a modest rise on current conditions (+3 to 115), this component has now exceeded 100 for just the second time since July of 2001. It should be noted that this is the second time surveying was conducted on-line with a representative sample of adult Massachusetts residents.
“While the national consumer confidence has risen and fallen throughout the year Massachusetts consumer confidence has consistently increased and is now 23.4 points higher than national consumer confidence.” said Mass Insight President William H. Guenther.
