Mass Insight Global Partnerships, a nonpartisan public policy and communications firm, has played a unique role since 1989 supporting and organizing effective public-private initiatives to improve Massachusetts’ economic competitiveness. The firm has established itself as an independent and highly credible convener and source of public policy information and public opinion research.
Mass Insight Education and Research Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Boston, MA. Mass Insight Education (MIE) is a dynamic non-profit that designs and implements strategies to transform public schools into high performance organizations and close the achievement gaps. We believe that enduring, fundamental change at scale depends on the practical integration of research, policy, and practice. Currently, MIE operates two business units: the Massachusetts Math and Science Initiative and the School Turnaround Group. Each group presents an innovative and distinctive package of services to schools, districts, and states.
The Director of Strategy and Corporate Development is a new position intended to drive strategy and coordination across these business units. This position is expected to take on major responsibilities quickly and drive action and results throughout the organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Strategy:
- Serves as principal strategic advisor to the MIE president and the division presidents
- Manages the strategic planning process for business units as well as the full organization
- Provides advising to business units in targeted areas, including product development, organization design, and strategic staffing
- Enforces strategic discipline across the organization
- Communicates strategy to stakeholders including the board
- Stays fully aware of trends in the broader market and ensures the corporate strategy is appropriate to the changing context
New Opportunities/Special Projects:
- Leads pursuit of new business opportunities – source new opportunities (internally and externally), understand financial feasibility and strategic fit, secure financial and human resources, and kick-off new projects, including coordinating resources across the business units
- Identifies, evaluates, cultivates, and manages strategic partnerships
- Identifies and leads synergy opportunities across the business units; manages complex interdependencies across internal and external stakeholders/projects
- Leads other special projects and initiatives as necessary
Corporate Development:
- Tracks overall corporate and business unit performance for the executive office, including setting metrics and goals and holding business units accountable
- Ensures that priorities and action plans are clear and that the organization is on-track to achieve its objectives
- Serves as a bridge across the organization, enforcing a firm-wide brand, culture, and set of policies
Qualifications:
- Able to design, lead, and execute complex strategic projects across business units
- Capable of generating insights and strategic plans that are both theoretically sound and practical to implement
- Thrives in a dynamic and uncertain environment; resourceful and creative in designing solutions and surmounting challenges
- Able to establish credibility quickly and influence a diverse range of stakeholders through both formal and informal channels
- Is action and results-oriented; able to act in a decisive and urgent manner to enact change
- Strong leadership and organizational skills; capable of motivating and managing staff to deliver desired results
- Strong oral and written communication skills; able to articulate strategies and action plans
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills for financial modeling/budgeting
- Deep understanding of the education landscape
- BA required, advanced degree preferred
- 10+ years experience, strategy consulting background preferred
