Mass Insight Corporation, based in Boston, MA, is a research and consulting firm that seeks to keep Massachusetts and its businesses and institutions globally competitive. The firm focuses on talent and innovation-based economic development and builds strategic alliances between higher education, industry and government, both regionally and globally.
Mass Insight organizes collaborative leadership initiatives and uses communications, publications, policy research and public opinion surveys to shape public-private actions and develop innovation partnerships.
Our clients, partners and sponsors represent a range of sectors, including universities, financial institutions, IT/communications, life sciences, defense, utilities, professional firms, nonprofits and foundations, trade organizations, and state agencies.
Mass Insight
Education and Research Institute is a nonprofit affiliate which
organizes public school and education reform initiatives to raise
math and science achievement and turn around failing schools.
Our current initiatives include:
- Global Massachusetts 2015, a two-year initiative that brings together major business groups, industry and higher education leaders to develop and advance a comprehensive economic agenda that will position Massachusetts to win the competition for talent.
- The 2008 U.S.-China-India Innovation Partnerships Conference, providing a forum to expand strategic innovation alliances between university, industry and government partners in the U.S., China and India.
- Collaborative Imaging Biomarker Center, a comprehensive medical imaging initiative, a model for multi-institutional collaboration that provides services to the partners while also furthering local and regional talent development.
- Massachusetts Ocean Research and Applications Consortium, leading the establishment of a national model for an ocean observation, prediction and management system and positioning Massachusetts as a leading talent cluster for ocean research.
Leadership Team
William H. Guenther
WILLIAM GUENTHER is President and Founder of Mass Insight Corporation
and Mass Insight Education & Research Institute. Following a
long career in public policy and communications, he founded Mass
Insight in 1989 to focus on the implementation of public policy
that affects the business climate and competitiveness of Massachusetts.
As an outgrowth of Mass Insight's work on K-12
education reform, Mr. Guenther established Mass
Insight Education & Research Institute, a 501c3 nonprofit
corporation, in 1997 to organize policy, outreach and school leadership
training initiatives to support the successful introduction of the
new Massachusetts state academic standards and tests.
Mr. Guenther is a graduate of Harvard College
and the New York University Law School.
Andrew Calkins
ANDREW CALKINS is Senior Vice President of Mass
Insight Education & Research Institute. Before joining Mass Insight in 1999, Mr.
Calkins was the Executive Director of Recruiting New Teachers, Inc.
a nonprofit organization managing a national campaign to build the
nation’s teacher workforce, and an editor and project director
at Scholastic Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of educational
materials. An award-winning writer and editor, he earned his BA
from Harvard College and did graduate work at Pembroke College,
Cambridge. He is an elected member of the Hamilton-Wenham School
Committee.

Senior Director, Corporate Projects
The Senior Director of Corporate Projects is responsible for the organization and planning of all Mass Insight Corporation initiatives and oversees staff and consultants working on corporate projects. Projects include oversight of consultant-led leadership workgroups in four key sector areas, development and planning of a major U.S.-China-India leadership conference in December 2008, management of quarterly public opinion polls and briefings, and responsibility for reports in connection with Asia-focused U.S.-China-India partnerships. Position includes duties of program director and chief of staff, and requires advanced skills in project management and goal development and a strong ability to prioritize and perform in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
8-10 years of relevant experience necessary; experience with university-industry partnerships, economic development or Asia-partnerships preferred. Experience in development and marketing a plus.
